1. Project Overview

Our community college is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to renovate 75 classrooms located in the main Liberal Arts building. This building houses all courses for Math, English, and Liberal Arts.

The goal of this project is to transform traditional classrooms into modern, accessible, and sustainable learning environments. We want to ensure that every student, regardless of physical ability, can navigate and use these spaces comfortably.

2. Scope of Work

The project involves the renovation of 75 classrooms spread across three floors (25 rooms per floor). Key requirements include:

  • Accessibility Improvements: Widening doorways where necessary, ensuring desks are at appropriate heights for wheelchair users, and creating clear paths for movement within the room.
  • Surface Upgrades: Replacing all existing blackboards with high-quality, sustainable whiteboards to reduce dust and improve visibility.
  • Flexible Seating: Replacing fixed desks with movable, ergonomic seating and tables. This will allow instructors to quickly rearrange the room for group work or lectures.
  • Smart Technology: Installing Smartboard technology in approximately 50% of the renovated classrooms (38 rooms total). These should be integrated with the room’s existing electrical system.
  • General Refresh: New low-VOC (environmentally friendly) paint and flooring for all 75 rooms.

3. Project Timeline

All work must be completed during the summer break to avoid disrupting classes. The schedule is as follows:

  • Phase 1 (Mid-May to Mid-June): Complete all 25 classrooms on the Third Floor.
  • Phase 2 (Mid-June to Mid-July): Complete all 25 classrooms on the Second Floor.
  • Phase 3 (Mid-July to Mid-August): Complete all 25 classrooms on the First Floor.

The building must be fully cleaned and ready for faculty use by August 20.

4. Proposal Requirements

Interested bidders should submit a proposal that includes:

  1. Company Profile: A brief history of your company and experience with school or office renovations.
  2. Work Plan: A detailed description of how you will manage the three-phase timeline.
  3. Budget Estimate: A clear breakdown of costs for labor, materials (whiteboards, furniture, Smartboards), and disposal of old materials.
  4. Sustainability Practices: A short explanation of how you will minimize waste and use eco-friendly materials during the project.

5. Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be graded based on the following:

  • Clarity and Completeness: How well the proposal follows these instructions.
  • Experience: Previous success with similar projects in the Syracuse area.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Providing the best value for the college’s budget.
  • Timeline Reliability: Ability to prove that the strict summer schedule can be met.
